Yoo Hoo Family!

This week was like spiritual overload!! It was all sorts of awesome!!!

We had a lot of good lessons during the beginning of the week and then on Friday we had zone conference. President Brown, Sister Brown and the AP's [mom note: Assistants to the President] all shared wonderful things that I just really needed to hear. I won't attempt to share all of it with you, but it was focused mainly on obedience, time management and balance. I really liked the parts on balance, that's what I think I needed the most. I need to work on being okay if appointments fall through every once in a while but also not being super laid back about it because appointments are important haha. It is a work in progress and zone conference definitely helped me to see where I can work to improve.

After zone conference we had interviews with President Brown [mom note: Emily's mission president] which are THE BEST because I just get to talk one on one with him about everything and he is just so in tune with the spirit. I always leave interviews with him feeling uplifted and ready to go out and share the gospel.

After my interview Sister Clyde and I went to Sav with the sister training leaders for trade offs and it was AMAZING!!! I learned so much from this trade off. I learned even more about balance and I also learned a lot about finding investigators effectively. Sister Lynn and I were together and Sister Clyde was with Sister Kelly. It was nice to see that we are all just human and sometimes we have hard days but if we stay excited about the work people will see that and want to learn more. I am thankful for all the things that I was able to learn this week.

One of my favorite lessons we taught this week was to our investigator Lorna. She is 53 and she is a super mom. We went to visit her at her shop after church yesterday to see why she wasn't able to come and she really opened up to us. She is having a hard time running her shop because her kids aren't being super helpful. She loves her family SO MUCH and she just is not completely feeling the love back. We were able to share a gospel message with her and she was so thankful when we were leaving, she didn't want us to go haha. I know that she felt the spirit and I definitely felt it as well.

We also visited a less active sister, Sister Henry. She is working a live-in job taking care of an older couple. The husband cannot see or hear very well and the wife cannot move or see well. She is a very Christlike woman, and such an example to me. We shared the talk with her from General Conference, "Through God's Eyes" which is MY FAVORITE!!! And I know that is what Heavenly Father wanted us to share. She shared with us about how it is hard sometimes to take care of the couple because they rely on her for everything, but after we shared the talk with her she said she felt like she should just take it slow and leave it in Heavenly Fathers hands. She said she is going to pray about it and rely on God. She is AMAZING!!!

Well family, I love you all so much and I am very very thankful for all the emails, love and support! I am so lucky to call you family!!!

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL week!!! Talk to you soon!!

week 16 . adversity is part of god's plan for us

Hello my dearest family!

This week was wonderful! I learned so much about missionary work and I was able to do a lot of growing. Heavenly Father is teaching me so much and I am so thankful for this experience.

We are teaching a woman named Lorna. We met her on the road in one of our areas at her vegetable stand. She now owns a little shop in the same area. We went to teach her this week and she was so excited to have us and we had a powerful lesson with her on the Restoration. We then saw her a little bit later in the week and taught her the beginning of the Plan of Salvation and she was super interested. We stopped by her shop later that evening to grab a snack and when we were leaving she was like "do you have to go?" haha, she is so sweet!!! And she is feeling the spirit so strongly when we visit with her. It is an amazing feeling to see her desire to learn, and she has a desire for her daughter to learn as well. I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!!!

This week I learned a lot about adversity being a part of Gods plan for us. We talked about it in Relief Society too. It was a good reminder that I definitely needed. Heavenly Father does not give us adversity to hurt us, but to help us learn and grow.

I love the gospel and I love that I get to share it every single day! The church is true!

Love you all!

Have a wonderful week!

week 15 . so many blessings i cannot even remember them

Hello everyone!!! Love you all!!

This week was WONDERFUL!!!! Sister Clyde and I worked very hard and there were so many blessings I cannot even remember them all haha.

We met a lot of new people this week which was really good. We met with a referral from the elders this week. His name is James and he is AMAZING!!! He asks questions that take us through the lesson perfectly and he has a sincere desire to find the truth for himself. He came to church this Sunday, he was a little late but we are so thankful that he made it and he learned a lot from gospel principles and priesthood. [mom note: different church classes]

I am so thankful for Sister Clyde! I got the flu this week and had a super sore throat and runny nose and she took such good care of me. I am so lucky to have her as my companion and I look forward to the rest of the time that we have together (we are both feeling two transfers haha).[mom note: a transfer is a 6 week period. Sounds like Em and Sister Clyde are thinking/hoping they will be together for two of them]

We have a member in the branch who returned from his mission in the Dominican Republic. He got back the same time as Megan. His name is Sean Henriques and he is such a blessing to the branch. He has done so much for them by serving a mission and he has helped to strengthen them a lot since he got home. The Montego Bay branch is continuing to grow and it really is amazing!!

This week I have learned so many new things about faith and the atonement. We have a couple investigators that are really working to progress, but they are having a hard time with keeping commitments or understanding what they are reading on their own. But I have seen their progression as they have exercised their faith and as they have relied on Heavenly Father and the atoning sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ. The Atonement is such an amazing gift that we have been given!!!

I love the gospel sooooo much and the more I learn about it, the more I want to share! This gift is just too amazing to keep to ourselves. I LOVE MISSIONARY WORK!!!!

Love you all sooooo much!! Have a wonderful week!!

week 14 . moving forward in faith

Okay sooooo many things to write about haha. Megs is home!!! WHAT?!?!?!?!?

I loved seeing all the pictures, she looks so happy and so cozy haha. It sounds like you had an eventful weekend. I told my companion about Megs coming home and she asked me what I thought she would do first? My answer: "eat Taco Bell and see Star Wars and watch Harry Potter" Looks like I was pretty spot on, and if she didn't watch Harry Potter she was still playing around in the Qudditch robe so I think I get 3/3 haha. [mom note: Em knows her sister well]

SISTER CLYDE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness I seriously LOVE her to pieces! She is from Arizona, she has an older sister and two younger brothers, she is a ballet dancer and she makes balloon animals. She has such a powerful testimony and she is so positive and happy all the time. She has a strong desire to be obedient and she absolutely loves missionary work. I am so very thankful for her, we have only been together for four days and I already love her so much!!! Also, she is an amazing cook and she is teaching me her ways haha. We are working really hard to eat healthy and exercise so that we can feel better as we go out and do the Lords work. I am really looking forward to this transfer!!

This week was amazing as always!! I got to introduce Sister Clyde to a lot of the wonderful people we are teaching and we had missionary Sunday (we have it every fifth Sunday) so all the missionaries spoke on "moving forward in faith". I was really thankful for the opportunity to prepare my talk because I learned a lot about faith while I was studying and hearing the other missionaries speak. One of my favorite quotes that I came across while I was preparing to speak was from President Uchtdorf's talk Be Not Afraid, Only Believe and he said: "I wish I could help everyone to understand this one simple fact: We believe in God because of things we know with our heart and mind, not because of things we do not know" WOW!!! I love the Conference Ensign [mom note: church magazine] so much!! I read from it often and I learn new things every time!! I also really like Alma 32:27-28. Faith is such a wonderful thing!!!

We had a lesson this week with a less active member, Sister Hamilton at her little shop and we were talking with her about her goals/desires in the gospel. We talked about her desire to get to the temple and we talked about the steps that it takes to get there. We focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was such a powerful lesson, I have never seen sister Hamilton so engaged in a lesson!!! After the lesson sister Clyde let sister Hamilton pick out a picture of a temple to keep to remind her of her goal and when she got to the Newport Beach temple I told her that was the one I went to and she was like "oh then I definitely want that one" haha, I LOVE sister Hamilton!!!

It was such an amazing week and I am really looking forward to this first full week with Sister Clyde. Montego Bay is not going to know what hit it haha.
